Transformers 2010 Retreat - November 19-20, 2010
The Transformers (Men of the Ray) invite you to the 2010 Transformers Retreat Assignment: God’s Expectation of You! Our retreat is November 19-20, 2010 at the Lodge at Simpsonwood located at 4511 Jones Bridge Circle, NW, Norcross, Georgia 30092.

Our guest facilitator is Pastor E. Dewey Smith, Senior Pastor of the Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church, Decatur, GA.

Registration begins Sunday, September 12, 2010. You may register after service, Tuesday after bible study or online at www.rayofhope.org. If you have any questions, please call 770-696-5100, ext. 231. 

New Members Meet and Greet
On Sunday, September 26, 2010, following the 10:00 a.m. worship service we will have a reception in the Choir Room for members who joined in May, June, and July.  This is an opportunity to meet Pastor Hale, the Church Staff, Elders, and Deacons.

Ray of Hope is Going GREEN In 2010
Ray of Hope Christian Church is going “GREEN” in 2010. The church bulletin can be found on our website at www.rayofhope.org. You can also receive the bulletin via email by providing your email address to LaTrenda Porter at 770-696-5104. A limited number of bulletins can be found at the Information Center for members without email or computer access.

Stay Connected Text Messages from Pastor Hale
Receive text messages from Pastor Hale. On your cell phone, type in the keyword – rayofhope to the number 25827. This is a one time set up. You will receive a confirmation text and begin to automatically receive text messages directly from Pastor Hale.

Ride-Share Networking
The Ride-Share Networking (RSN) is designed to provide ride-sharing (assistance and/or carpooling) services for those desiring to come to church but without transportation. If you are able to accommodate another person from your immediate residential area, please sign up TODAY through email on the church website or at the bulletin board in the chapel receptionist area. Simply add your name, email address, contact number, immediate area, and whether you are in need of transportation or willing to provide ride-sharing services to someone.

Café  Ray
Welcome to Café Ray!  You are invited to enjoy a wonderful dinning experience every Tuesday in the Family Life Center from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. Our Chef and a team of volunteers prepare an evening dinner for the members, families, and guest of the “Ray.” The cost is $5.00 per person and children under 12 years of age eat absolutely free!

2010 Women In Ministry Conference
Volunteers are needed to support Pastor Hale’s 2010 Women In Ministry Conference to be held Monday-Thursday, September 20-23, 2010 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport. Volunteers will be needed from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Please stop by the front kiosk or sign up by emailing us at wimconference@aol.com and leave your name, email address, and telephone number.

Take note of the following important dates:

  • Volunteer Orientation - Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel Sanctuary.
  • Conference Packing – Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the FLC

Join us as we prepare for this conference that will change the lives of women in ministry.

 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION 

Hope Institute
The Hope Institute will commence its Fall Quarter on Saturday, September 18, 2010. There are many new and exciting learning opportunities for your enrichment.  We look forward to partnering with you as we grow in our faith and Christian fellowship. Registration is available online or you can download the registration from and fax to 770-696-5111 until September 18, 2010. 

Terrific Tuesday Witness & Workout for Children
This Bible study is for ages 5-12 and is held every Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Exhilarating Bible study, games, fun, and organized physical activities are offered. Space and time is available for children with homework. Every third Tuesday is “Get With It Workout Night.” For safety and fun, we ask that children wear pants and tennis shoes. Children’s Church Presents: “Parent ConversationS” Parent Forum. This evening is for parents to talk, share and feel. Talk to one another and a professional, share concerns, and feel the freedom that comes from knowing you are not alone.  A panel will openly hear your heart as you speak to your concerns for parenting in the 21st century.

Children’s Church Christmas Cards for the Troops 
Ho, Ho, Ho, it is time once again to collect Christmas cards for the men and women who serve to protect our American freedom. We ask for any old Christmas cards that you wish to discard or even a dollar box of new cards. The children will hand write a message of love, joy, thanks, and encouragement in their own way. Our goal this year is 2000 cards. Contact Min. McCall with your donations. 770-696-5100 ext 243.

Children’s Activities -Worship and Arts
Your child will learn how to give God Extraordinary Service as they participate in the many programs designed for the children age 5-12.  Come and join the Raybeams Children’s Choir and the Seeds of Hope Children’s Dance Ministry. Rehearsals are held in the Choir Room of the main building on Saturday mornings. Children’s Choir rehearsal is from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and dance rehearsal is from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Min. Gloria McCall at 770-696-5100, ext 243.

 

COMMUNITY LIFE

Transformers Breakfast – Saturday, September, 18, 2010
PLEASE join the Transformers (Men of the Ray) for their Morning Breakfast on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. in the Family Life Center. The breakfast will be a time of fellowship as the Men of the Ray. All men are welcome to this event. Join us….it will be a blessing!

Couple’s Ministry Presents: “Reigning and Sustaining Together”
You are invited to attend the third 2010 Couples Ministry event scheduled on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Join us in the Ray of Hope Family Life Center at 8:30 a.m. This mini-conference will provide a great venue for couples to participate in two separate sessions to discuss and demonstrate, “Reigning and Sustaining Together.” The sessions are designed to be full of fun, interaction, and fellowship. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. The nursery will be available.

Encounters Bible Study for Ages 13-19
Bible study is held every Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel for all middle and high school students. This Bible study is tailor–made just for teenagers. Come and enjoy an interactive Bible study using videos, role playing, and much more. We will meet in the Main Sanctuary and then transition to the Chapel after Praise & Worship. Friday Night Evangelism
The Youth Ministry will be headed to support Southwest DeKalb High School as they play Chamblee High School on Friday, September 24, 2010. For more information contact Min. Cornelius Lloyd at 770-696-5100, ext. 253.

YOUTH FOOTBALL!  Last Chance - Sign up Now!

  1. Tackle football for ages 8 to 12 and for grades 3 to 6 and some 7th graders.  The birthday cutoff date is September 1, 2010.  The cost is $100.00 for the month of August.  After August 31, the cost is $125.00.
  2. Flag football for 6 and 7 year olds and for grades 1 and 2 only.  The cost is $50.00 per player.  Children must be at least 6 years old and in the first grade by January 1, 2010 to play flag football.
  3. Cheerleading for football for ages 5 to 13.  Children must be 5 by January 1, 2010.  The cost is $100.00. 

Sign up for all the above after the 10:00 a.m. worship service until September 5th at the rear kiosk.  Football games began August 21st.   Home games are played at Medlock Park football field on Ridge Ave. in Stone Mountain.  For more information please contact Coach John DeBruhl at 770-696-5100, ext 203.

 

OUTREACH MINISTRY

Community Health Talk
“Freedom from Fibroid’s” a free community health talk will be held here on Wednesday September 29, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Women in particular are invited to come out to hear from a panel of medical experts, about other alternatives and medical breakthroughs in the treatment of this health concern.

Sickle Cell
September is national sickle cell awareness month. This blood disorder affects predominately persons of African descent with 1 out of every ten African American carrying the trait.  Over 1800 children in Georgia suffered from this disease. Information about testing and care are available at the Information Center.

Hope Holiday 2010 - Save the Date
Mark you calendars for the annual Hope Holiday Store on Saturday, December 11, 2010.  Imagine the smiling faces and expressions of joy, hope as we help families experience the Christmas season through gifts, and service. We have a place for you to serve and the Hope Holiday Store will begin volunteer registration Sunday, September 12 through Tuesday, September 28, 2010.

Employment Assistance
If you are looking for employment, the state of Georgia has a new website that provides information about state jobs and other employment information. You can access this information by logging on to Careers.Ga.Gov.

Temporary Child Care Assistance (TCCA)
The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) has created this new federally funded program that will be operated under the State's Child Care Program.  TCCA is funded with a portion of the funds Georgia received as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) signed by President Barack Obama in February 2009. Funds will only be available until September 30, 2010, after which the TCCA program will be closed. Informational flyers are available at the Information Kiosk.

C.O.M.P.A.S.S.
Georgia Compass is the Department of Human Resources new online food stamp application and pre-screening tool.  This website allows customers to apply for food stamp and other social services assistance programs on the internet.  You can obtain additional information by logging on to https://compass.ga.gov.

Weight Watchers 2010
Weight Watchers group meetings are held every Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. For more information contact LaTrenda Porter at 770-696-5100, ext. 244.
